Crochet wine bottle case
This is hands down my favourite thing to bring to a dinner party. A crocheted wine bottle case with a starry motif and a long strap, so you can sling your bottle over your shoulder and stroll in like the best dressed guest there. Because let's be honest, showing up with wine is nice, but showing up with wine in a handmade celestial case? That's the gift that keeps on giving.
The case is worked from the bottom up in the round, starting with a flat circular base that fits a standard wine bottle perfectly. Then you simply change direction and work your way up the bottle. The stars are made using an easy to follow colour chart, and I'll walk you through exactly how to do the colour changes, so even if you've never done tapestry crochet before, you'll be absolutely fine. To finish, you crochet a sturdy strap and join it on, and that's it. Wearable wine.
It's a quick and satisfying project, perfect for using up cotton from your stash, and once you've made one you'll want to make them for every friend with a birthday coming up. Trust me on this.
You'll need:
Two colours of Rauma Petunia (100% cotton, 110 m per 50 g) or similar, a 2.5 to 3 mm hook, and a measuring tape.
If you can single crochet, double crochet and follow a simple chart, this one's for you. I've included the full star chart, step by step instructions and my tips for getting the colour changes neat.
Happy hooking, and cheers!
